Steve, how wonderful you are doing! I hope I do half as well! I\'m waiting on March 13th, sometimes it seems it will never get here. Best wishes for the wedding, I bet you will be just a little more emotional than the ordinary father of the bride, this surgery makes us look at life with a whole different perspective.
Keep up the great work...any tips will be greatly appreciated. I will have aortic valve replacement and possible aorta repair.
Still waiting...Linda Dixon

Steve, my amazing brother, I am so proud of you! Talking with you by phone today made my heart sing. You are on a remarkable path of recovery - so strong, disciplined and goal-oriented.
Great idea to measure your steps with a pedometer. May God continue to heal and strengthen your heart as you enter week three.

Steve...glad to hear you are on with your recovery. You are still in the early stages and with the early challenges...I had the same ones. I slept in a recliner for about 6 weeks, as I could not sleep on my side due to the discomfort in my sternum. I got used to it. Your walks will get better and longer quickly. Keep doing your breathing exercises...it helps a lot with your walks.
Stay positive, it does get better every day.

Hi Steve, good to hear that you are home and on your way to full recovery. We are all pulling for you to bounce back quickly. I also have severe aortic stenosis and dilated aorta and am waiting on a surgery date now. I am told waiting is the worse part, I\'m hoping that is true. Take care and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Keep us updated.

Steve,
Great to hear you are doing well, and home. I wa.s 58 when I had my aortic valve replace December 9, 2010. Like you I had a lot of family and friends around me at the hospital. Like you I could not lay down to sleep for about 3 weeks, and when I finally did I still need to have my back prop up. Hang in there, and enjoy Christmas. This was a great gift I received that year. Merry Christams and many New Years to come.

Hey Steve,
Glad that you are home, and doing well, I am 4 weeks post surgery and I am getting stronger everyday. Everyone is different so you go at your own pace, you will see small changes as you go forward, things will get better, I was like you when I was first home my heart seem like it was pounding, but since then I think that it has settled down. I have a mechanical valve so biggest thing right now is getting my Coumadin levels correct. Keep up the walking it does help a lot, and continue doing your breathing exercise, I still do mine with the spirometer, I am like up to 3000 LOL. Well take care, I will keep you in my daily prayers, and it will all work out, you will see, Have a GREAT Christmas, Be THANKFUL for the many BLESSINGS we all have. jim

Hi Steve,
I am 17 days since my surgery. I know this sounds like such a small suggestion, but it works for me. My daughter bought me one of those travel pillows. It looks like a bagel but it has an opening. I found that if I could relax my neck, even if I was almost in a sitting position (recliner position) I was able to fall asleep. I think because of the pain in our chests, we don\'t allow our body to relax. It has worked for me every night. It was suggested to me by a friend who had broken ribs and punctured lung from an accident. I hope it works for you. It is worth a try, its not expensive.

Great to hear you are home and on the mend.
Take it easy. I too had issues with sleep. It gets better. It just takes time. As Robyn, my wife, helped me understand this is one of those \"Hurry up and... Wait\" situations. There is no rush. Do your best to enjoy being home with your family.
Keep on tickin!

Hi Steve,
I have been reading your journal entries since the 12th. I look forward to following your recovery, also.
Do you agree that the worst part was the anxiety before surgery? You\'ll do great.
I had my aortic valve replaced in July 2011 and was back to work in 6 weeks....should have taken 8 or 10 weeks more, but that\'s just me.
May God continue to bless you in your recovery.
