I thought it would be some sort of spiritual calling but it was not! He said he realized it was his calling to find Sasquatch! 🤔🙄I couldn't believe my ears and he was totally serious.

The other 2 are a senior at virginia tech and a bucknell graduate currently an accountant. My daughter elaine in the picture is a physical therapist.

Thank you for the blessings. It means a lot. This week we meet the neurology guru to discuss shadows seizures. Its a 2 hour drive to get there. This is her specialty. Glad i have pet insurance. I am armed to the teeth with facts and figures and even a picture of his pen. I call it exhibit one. He had 3 of his 4 outside. Hope she was not expecting a shrinking violet. I want to be able to answer any question she might have. I already have an inkling that vomiting is a trigger but i will let her do her thing before i butt in. Then december first i meet the urologist to discuss my biopsy results. My hope is that i can continue my active surveillance program but if it has changed , then i will not hesitate to go the radiation route. Life is interesting.

Richard Munson I actually just got my biopsy results on my portal. The gleason scores have not changed on my 3 cancerous lesions which is good, but there is a lot of additional data that is beyond my brilliant mind to comprehend so i am reserving judgement until i meet him on the first. I did however send him a portal message about the results as i would like some basic feedback before we meet for peace of mind if nothing else. If nothing has changed i would probably opt for another year of active surveillance but i also don’t want to lull myself into complacency as radiation is an option.

None of my friends or family have gone through this and you just always there. I appreciate it and you. It’s been about two years my journey has been hard but you made a difference for me and i know others, and I simply adore you. Hi Rose, thank you for the note way back when. My last visit with my cardiologist and surgeon revealed worsening stenosis of the aortic valve and severe regurgitation. I feel pretty good other than being more tired after work tasks or exercise. I’ve also noticed lately numbness in my feet ( not sure if that’s related) so I’m considering surgery this fall on replacing the bicuspid aoortuc valve and repairing the ascending aortic aneurysm. I’ve been back and forth on whether to go mechanical or tissue valve. One doc suggested tissue because of my active lifestyle and not having to worry about the blood thinners. The other doc said mechanical valve because I’m only age 50 and could be 1 surgery and done and didn’t think it was a big deal to be on blood thinners. Any thoughts on valve replacement decision?

Rose Madura Hi Angus, thanks for reaching out. I think that choosing a valve is one of the hardest decisions we have to make. There are pros and cons for each one. At 59, I chose a tissue valve. I didn't want to be on blood thinners and I'm kind of a clutz. I'm fairly active but not super active. I also had the aneurysm repair as well as arch & root repair. I hope it will last at least 20 years before I need a new one but realize that is pushing the envelope and I understand that more than likely, I'll need one more surgery - that being a TAVR. At age 50 for you, it's a little more complicated. If you go with a tissue valve, you may need a TAVR and a valve in valve. Plus, I've heard that tissue valves do not last as long in younger and more active people. There are some very active people who got the Ony-x valve and do well. I think it requires a lower dose of blood thinner. My advice to you is to do your due diligence and research both valves. I'm certain there are many visits on this site that can help you. Pray about it and ask God for guidance, and then make a decision. The main thing is that once you've made a decision, don't look back or second guess yourself. It will be the right decision for you. Sue Maize Exactly what I was going to suggest—Angus, you’re still young and fit and the Ross is a 3rd option worth considering for good candidates. There are many people on this site, including Adam Pick, who’ve had this done successfully. It’s a longer surgery because it involves replacing 2 valves (your own pulmonary valve would replace your aortic valve and you’d get a donor pulmonary valve, so all human tissue. But the long term outcomes do look better in many cases Ie. You may not require a re-surgery which you would with a tissue valve, and you wouldn’t require life-long blood thinners either as with a mechanical valve. It’s important to make fully informed decisions about these things, and your cardiologist or surgeon may not mention this option as not as many surgeons in Canada do it…but there are more who do all the time. My own surgeon was one, but in the end I was not a safe candidate for it. There is another at St. Mary’s hospital in Kitchener, and others across the province as well as the Montreal Heart Institute. There is lots to learn but this is a good place to start—check out the resources on this site and try and connect with those who’ve had it. God bless you on your journey forward. 🙏🏻

I would get a second opinion (rose ) on that ironman/ ironwoman race 2 months after ohs. Once you have been there, you know how it disrupts your entire system. A positive attitude however is a good thing, but a dash of realism never hurts. I like this ladies attitude and her recovery will be an interesting story. After reading her story, I am now considering training for our local ironman contest. I am entering the iron oldman category. The first test is called getting out of a chair. I wish things would warm up here is taxachusetts so my rose bushes would bud up and i can drive my car without the heater going full blast. Car show season is coming up fast. Yesterday i started up old betsy and the roar of my flowmaster exhaust system gave me a spasm.

Just took Shadow for a 3 mile walk in the rain ( as the old adage goes, the rain in spain falls mainly in the plain ) whatever that means. You might know. I just climbed to the 2nd floor while eating a popsicle at the same time to take a shower. Multi tasking. Jonny pops. Not sure if sold in spain but fruit flavored and very tasty, makes them heart healthy. Highly recommended. Now i am headed to this years first car club meeting. Bunch of old men talking about this winters medical procedures, and pill collection. Should be a real yawner.

I read your doctors age spans. We are obsessed with age in this country may it be politics, jobs, sports and on and on. It really boils down to competence in my eyes. I see some folks at the doctors office that i swear must be 10 years older than me and when i hear them say their date of birth i say omg , to myself of course. Just this week my pcp told me he respects my attitude. Nice to hear. I am fortunate to still be able to enjoy life at 82 but only our creator knows when that will change. Until then, i plan to work, walk shadow, drive my car to shows and try and ignore the everyday aches and pains we all develop as older folks.

I had a polyp the last time so he said to give it another shot. Maybe shot is not a good word to use. Intrusion might be better. Ugly is a better word but i am told colon cancer is not a good thing to get .They encourage ice cream marie. If they don’t discourage it, they must encourage it. Seems simple to me. Plus there is the anesthesia risk.

I enjoyed reading your story about the retired bosses wife. Its like everything else, its a personal choice. Sad that the work ethic that was a common trait in the USA has left the building. Not sure who is to blame, teachers, parents? I like to think that most things begin at home. Good or bad. I am happy to say that my kids and now grandkids have what it takes. Funny story about my grandson who graduated from bucknell and took a job with a major accounting firm. I called him last weekend to wish him happy birthday. He said grandpa, can i call you back, i am right in the middle of a work project. Later he called as promised and we chatted. Exactly what i would have done.

Richard Munson I think of mine often and the memories are always good ones. Still missed after 20 years. Got my final one month post surgery eye exam today. Should be positive, i see good. No more drops. Also good. Vision not quite as clear as right eye but pretty darn close. I know my balance has improved considerably. Next week colonoscopy. Not a pleasant experience but a necessary one. Most of us on this sight have no doubt suffered thru it. Now i can sit back and wait for my next health issue. I know its there someplace.
