Hi Peggy,
Jess again. My story is, at age 83, I was diagnosed with severe regurgitation after several years of minor leakage. The surgery was lengthy, but when I became aware, I never had pain. I was in ICU for three days, only because the Cleveland hospital did not have any open beds. The biggest problems were the many lines, hoses, etc. kept getting in the way, but pain was never an issue. I finally went to general hospital for two days and was released after several echo grams. After returning home I had no pain, but also no appetite. After losing 20 pounds, starting taking Boost+, and quickly regained my weight and appetite. Now back to previous weight, no pain, no serious side effects. Good luck.

Hi Peggy,
I had mitral valve regurgitation repair surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland last September. It was full open-heart and was performed by Dr. Hodges. Surgery was several hours in length. I consider myself to be average in pain tolerance. My experience was no pain medication needed throughout the entire healing process.
