Hi Nick,
Good luck with the surgery. I'm also a pilot and had my Aortic Valve replaced six months ago at 44 y/o. I went back and forth with the Ross but ended up getting a tissue valve. Still haven't returned to work but hoping in the next few months things will come together.

Hey Nick, I had the Ross done when I was 15 back in 97.....the aortic valve held out fine but the pulmonary got calcified. I hope it works out for you Captain, honestly it's a good procedure. My valve went bummy a bit quicker cause they don't last as long in younger patients.

Hi. Do you know that a lot of people who will need to get a second valve replacement won't need open heart surgery? They might be able to get their new valve through a fairly simple procedure called TAVR, with an incision in the groin. I know that is true for a lot of people who get a regular valve replacement. I don't know much about the Ross procedure. You can ask your surgeon about that. Maybe it would affect your career plans if you could be pretty sure you won't need a second open-heart surgery.

Jean Raber Every hospital has slightly different criteria for who gets TAVR/TMVR. It's not elective yet. I have a blood cancer so am a candidate for TMVR. Adam has a good video on here about an elderly lady who had it. I will see if I can find it later and post.
