Almost 4 years post op and life is good ! I was fortunate also to have been born with a bicuspid aortic valve. I say fortunate because most people find out they have heart problems when they are laying on the floor with a heart attach, at least we had warning and the opportunity to resolve the problem without heart damage. By the time I was as close as you are to my operation, Yes I was nervous but I was just so ready to be on the recovery side of life. Remember this is one of the most performed surgeries and these doctors have lots f practice and technology and you are in expert hands. The operation and recovery was WAY WAY easier or better than I ever imagined and time goes by quickly. Feel free to read my story if you wish but just know, you can do this and your life will be better for it. My mooooo valve has done great so far, just had my 4 year check up and no leakage at all and pressures are great. All the best 🙏

Welcome Nancy! Glad you found this site! We are all here to help. I am 9 weeks post op now and it was the best decision to get it done. I’m getting used to my valve (onx from cryolife - mechanical). I have a lot more energy and stamina now. Feel free to read my story. It might give you some inspiration. I hope the best for you and your sister!
