Hey Mike, my mom is going to need aortic valve replacement surgery and is going in for a pre surgical consult with Dr. Yun. Looks like he was your surgeon too, did you have a similar procedure? Is it safe to say that my mom is in good hands? Let me know whenever you get the chance, thanks!

Hi mike, thanks for the note on the recliner. I made some calls today and have located a place that should have something for me when I return home. No harm having it.
Glad too hear you are recovering well....I hate those first few days of recovery - I had pretty major surgery when I was sixteen and still remember just a moment in ICU waking up - it's rough..and when they told me to get up and sit in a chair..I was like, really? Anyway, I know we are all grateful to get "fixed" and be able to move along with our lives. Keep up the great work on recovering.
Wow good news you are well on your way to recovery. A day at a time ... all the best on your new journey with your newly fixed heart.

Glad to see you feel well enough to post for yourself. The first couple of weeks are rough, but take the meds, rest a lot and try to drink enough fluids. I did ok with ginger ale and coke, not so well with milk and OJ at first. Now, four weeks later, no problems. I am glad you are healing, every day you (or your loved ones most likely) will see progress. Keep healing!

Hello Mike,

Still wake up during the night but think that's because I have a newborn valve. I could not have a repair as there was so much calcification. This apparently was from rheumatic fever as a child.
I had a terrible cough fort a long time way before surgery, and am so happy to say that its disappeared.
Rest when you can, drink lots of water and ask for pain meds when you need them.
Thinking of you and remembering you in my prayers.
Be sure to journal as your strength improves. Before you know it you will be home sweet home.
Your heart sister!

Congratulations Mike on your successful repair!
I'm with Kevin -- I LOVED my ice chips - couldn't get enough of them - seriously. That and apple juice the first day or two. I wasn't that hungry even on the day of discharge but I managed to eat some solid food the last 2 days. They won't let you go home unless you poop....so you have to eat something solid toward the end, even if you aren't that hungry.... ;)
Wishing you all the best with your recovery.... keep us posted!

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Every day will get better and better.
A couple reminders: keep hydrated, ask for pain meds when pain started, rest and limit visitors the first few days.
Think positive thoughts and remember the tough part of this journey is done.
Talk to you soon.

Best wishes for today and all the following days. I know you will be so happy to wake up and see your family cheering you on. My thoughts are with them, too, for waiting during the surgery must be so hard, I felt for my own sitting and waiting for calls from the OR nurse. Blessings to you all.

I meant to post to you yesterday but got caught up in appts. due to my own surgery coming up 20th. Wanted to ask the name of your wife so we can post you both back and we can thank her personally for updates to us all.
Everything is going to go smoothly Mike. It is a big day today and you have many thoughts and prayers with you and your Family headed into surgery with you. Have condfidence in the talent and knowledge, experience of the "team" that will meet, prep and carry you off into a place that will give you back pieces of your life with those you love that you have been missing. A new healthier life with your mended heart awaits you. I look forward in a week in hearing my husband read your posts as you and I both recover together with the others headed into or just out from surgery. Think how this is going to make the Holidays this year a special time as all of this will be behind you and nothing but getting stronger and healthier in front of you.
You have my love and a gentle hug to your wife this day along with a very heartfelt prayer! You Can Do This!
