Melissa Alfred You're so welcome! Definitely! follow me on here & I will do the same for you. I completed a very long pre-op day today, and I met with a cardiologist who specifically deals with post-heart surgery pregnancies & he agreed with my decision of the bio-prosthetic valve and said everything I wrote on your post. Do not give up hope, yes this is a huge bump in the road but we WILL get over it and we WILL move on and become amazing mothers. xoxo

Live in Shelton, Wa. Had my aortic valve replaced on 1/3/17. Done at St. Peters in Olympia.
This was my 2nd open heart as I had triple bypass in 2009.
Had problems during this surgery because of previous surgery. Sternum pretty much shattered this time and they had to install plates to assist putting sternum back together.
Have heard good things about Swedish.
I am walking a lot, still limited on lifting much, my sternum barks quite loudly if I over exert myself.
Take care and pray all goes well.

Hi, Melissa: I am from Washington State and am due for aortic valve replacement for bicuspid valve and stenosis...but, I am traveling to NY to have the Ross procedure with Dr. Paul Stelzer at Mount Sinai in Manhattan. You are at Swedish? I was born there...don't remember much :-)
Do you have a support network here in Washington? Wish you all the best.

Melissa Alfred Hi Kevin! when are you scheduled for the procedure in NY? Good luck! My AVR was 9 years ago at NYU with Dr. Steven Colvin. Yes, I found a cardiologist at Swedish last year, I just saw her again this past week. I had a consult with a surgeon there, but I want a 2nd or even 3rd opinion & may fly home to NY to NYU for that & to see my family, I have a few friends here but my family is on the east coast. Good luck to you!

KEVIN RYAN Hi, Melissa! Flying to JFK with my brother on March 19th. We plan to do a little sightseeing in Manhattan on the 20th. Surgery is scheduled for Wed. the 22nd. Curious...what brought you so far from family/friends? I spent a few years in Oklahoma going to school and I remember feeling soooooo homesick! I hope you have a good network of friends so far from home.
Best to you!
Kevin.

Melissa Alfred Good luck to you and enjoy the sightseeing! Not sure if it's in your schedule, but visiting the hamptons (where i'm from born & raised) is a must when visiting NY. My husband is an Alaskan fisherman for Trident Seafoods & the flights from dutch to JFK were outrageous with expenses so after a few years of that we took the plunge & moved. or I should say I moved since i'm alone most of the time lol.

Hello Melissa I bet you are feeling very scared at the moment I also am facing a similar issue to you I was born with a congenital defect at birth my aortic valve is bicuspard every year I have had echocardiograms to measure the pressure gradient in the valve I'm 27 years old unfortunately with a bicuspard valve often an ascending aortic aneurysm comes with it my aneurysm is located at the base root of my aorta and has dillated rapidly over the last 6 months I saw my surgeon just recently and advised me to have elective surgery next month to repair the bicuspard aortic valve and the ascending dilated aorta with a graft called a Dacron graft I'm having the Bentall button procedure how was your experience when you had your valve replaced?? I am getting a mechanical valve as I hopefully never want to have another operation but the warfarin is a worry I wish you the very best of luck on your journey ahead kindest regards Ryan
