Hi Joan,
-I admire you for your strength and perseverance and I am so happy that you are now on the road to total recovery! Just put one foot in front of the other and take it one day at a time. Soon, you will look back and it will seem like a dream. And, thank you for everything you have done for all your patients.

Lenore Mitchell Hi Joan - from one nurse to another ... I understand how different it is being on the other side of things! Had my mitral valve repair back in 2015, but will never forget the months leading up to surgery, the what ifs, the worry. And here you are with not just one, but two surgeries! Here’s to your continued recovery. Great that you were up so soon. I’ll follow along and wish you well. Virtual hugs!

Lenore Mitchell Hi Joan - checking in to see how you’re doing. Glad you’re on the road to recovery. It varies day to day, you’re so right about that. Give yourself time - the post op phase is a sort of oasis where you can just listen to your body, rest when you need to and move more when you can. I really enjoyed coloring in one of the adult coloring books, using colored pencils (easier to control than crayons) but its very relaxing and calming to fill spaces with whatever hue happens to appeal at that moment. In some ways, having surgery is a bit easier being a nurse and yet in other ways it’s more challenging because you know too much. Anyhow, take it easy and keep going. I’ll check in with you every now and again. This is such a crazy year, which adds to the stress, but when things get to you, remember to place yourself in your very own oasis as much as you can!

Joan Hibo Hi Lenore, I have been taking it one step at a time. I'm glad I'm able to walk for 2 miles now and focusing on my time on that. A little challenge on myself, but I don't overdo it. You are right about listening to your body. What matters right now is to heal well and keep moving. What is funny right now is that I do not miss work in the ICU. I guess, being confined in that unit for almost a month did it. You stay safe and virtual hugs to you too!

Joan, you are such a warrior. I am in awe of your strength and the power of your body. I know you are tired, but yet you continue to fight. You give me so much inspiration. I have had a mitral valve replacement and my tricuspid valve was repaired, but will need additional work. I tried to block it out, but it might be a replacement. If and when that happens, I will remember that immense amount if strength. I know that it is not all puppies, unicorns, and rainbows, but I know on those down difficult days you still are facing them with grace. That is what gives me hope. Get well soon, feel better, and keep fighting. THANK YOU!!

Joan Hibo Shae, give me a heads up when you will be needing additional workup. You being the survivor also of a valve replacement will do fine. I think the steps we all went through has made us stronger individuals. Thanks you for your wonderful words of encouragement and vibes.
Joan,
Thinking of you today and praying for a speedy recovery 😊💖
Stay strong and take one step at a time!
Best wishes always ,
Kim

Mark Haden I will be having aortic valve replacement by the end of the year. I have no CAD. I do have some confusion on my knowledge of echos and bicuspid valves. I thought this congenital condition made itself known at a young age. I am 67 and my murmur was discovered eight years ago. I have had five echos and my doc never said anything about the type of valve. I will have more tests before surgery or TAVR, and those docs are saying they can’t tell what kind of valve I gave from conventional echo, They will do a TEE soon to get a better picture. Has anyone has this experience?
