Hey Jeff I'd love to connect and talk about what life is like on blood thinners for an active 40-something. I'm not sure how to message someone on here.

Amy Minto Can I jump in on that too? I'm about to have a mechanical valve put in. I know I have to give up Taekwondo sparring but I would love to hear how it's going and what life is like. I'm 50, but I tried to keep up with my husband and 11-year-old who are very active. If you're comfortable looping me in, here's my email (no pressure!) amysminto@gmail.com

Jeff Williams I honestly don't remember, but I think it was a mild leak at that point. It made a jump at the beginning of this year and decided to get it taken care of before it got worse and I lost any heart function.

Jeff Williams Hey Grace. I was invited by a friend to observe a training hosted by Artivion. They do host multiple events a year for young surgeons. And both of the surgeons mentioned are part of the faculty. Definitely a cool experience and it's nice to have a connection.

Allen Carkner This definitely is fascinating. The Ross procedure is a comlex surgery with much nuance it seems. My surgeon for example uses the Dacron inclusion method to prevent autograft dilation. While others sometimes use the patients own aorta for support.

Odd question probably, but when did your incision scab start to fall off? I noticed on your 2 weeks YouTube video thumbnail, it’s looks gone and it’s just pink. I’m on my 2nd week and mine is still a scab. I shower every other day currently. Any advice/insight would be great. :)

Jeff Williams It came off during that week. It probably has to do with lots of different factors. Post surgery, my incision just had the bioglue on it with no dressing.
That probably helped it dry out faster. I would think that there is a wide variety of timing for them though.
Mine also came off in spots vs all at once. I'm sure it won't be long for you.
Jeff Williams Also, that was really 3 weeks come to think about it. It was my second week at home.
Jeff, thanks for sharing your videos on YouTube. I've done a lot of research in preparation for my procedure and your experience is very helpful!

Jeff Williams I don't know if there is a way to send a private message, so I'll just put it here.
Let me know when and we can set it up. I'm fairly open with my schedule.

Thank you Jeff for responding to me over the sternotamy question! I’m going to Piedmont Atlanta on September 7th dr Vinod Thouroni will replace my bicuspid valve, as you read I’m 61 with no real symptoms that I notice, I may be surprised after the surgery and understand that I really was running on half throttle! For years! I’m trying to be positive but I’m nervous honestly! At 61 it’s my choice on the valve and I would go mechanical but thinners and clicking makes me hesitant what is your thoughts?
Jeff Williams Understandable to be nervous. The team at Piedmont is awesome.
As far as the valve choice...I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical On-X valve. I happen to be a loud ticker, but honestly it doesn't bother me at all. I have a friend that just had his done and he doesn't hear his. It seems to vary from person to person with how loud it is.
I've also only been on blood thinners for a little over a month so I may not be the best person to help, but they haven't been an issue at all for me. ... Read more
