Janet R Hi Sandhya, thank you so much. Check in is 5:30am tomorrow and 7am surgery. I can't wait to get my heart fixed. The heart will be fixed immediately. It is the recovery from the sternotomy and the surgery that will be the tough recovery. We are staying at the Hyatt right across the street from Northwestern. Bill will post updates.

Janet R Hi Lewis, thank you for the positive thoughts. I feel very fortunate to have one the best surgeons, Dr. Patrick McCarthy and it is most like a repair, no replacement and no other complications. We have been planning this since October 2014 and I look forward to finally getting my heart fixed before more damage occurs.

Cheryl Batzing Janet, welcome to the heart community here! I also had mitral valve regurgitation and a broken leaflet causing the trouble. I had no symptoms, and they decided I needed it fixed now before enlarged heart, etc. SO, from a check up on Oct. 6 to mitral valve repair surgery on Dec. 16, it was quick! I'll pray you are at peace as you continue this journey and please ask any questions you have. Blessings.

Welcome to the site- as you already discovered this place has a wealth of information that you can read at your own pace. I had to take it in slowly at first because things were happening so quickly. But, the information and more importantly the support of others was so wonderful in the valve process. Like you it WAS my mitral valve needing some work. Feel free to ask anyone here, including me any questions, and read some stories here when you feel like you want to. No ones journey is identical, but we are all in some stage of Valve surgery.
