Hi Janet,

I just joined the blog and read your post. So glad your surgery went well and you are on the road to recovery. Wishing you a restful, pain free super speedy recovery. I too am diagnosed with the same issue as yours and we are considering Cleveland clinic. Am super nervous. I hope I get an appointment soon. Would like to talk with you about the whole process after few days once you feel better if you don't mind. Stay strong!!

I just had my consult yesterday at Johns Hopkins Hospital for my mitral valve repair surgery. I am scheduled for July 11, 2022 for my surgery and you are absolutely right ...it is a rollercoaster of emotion. I work with a doctor who recently had heart surgery at the CC and he has done quite well as I am sure you will.

Hi Janet. I am betting you will do really well in Cleveland next week. I had mitral and tricuspid valve repair at the CC in November of last year. It was nowhere near as difficult as I feared it would be. They are really, really good at this - and really good at keeping you comfortable after the surgery. In my case, I had surgery (full sternotomy) on the Thursday before Thanksgiving and I felt pretty normal except for some fatigue within a week. By Christmas it was like it never happened. Good luck!

Sounds like you're in great hands. Hopefully you are a candidate for the robotic assist for the shorter recovery time. I understand all the anxiety you are going through but you're at a center of exellence and does tons of these surgeries. Please believe me when I say you'll be find. Best of luck.

Hi Janet and welcome to the group! Our heart stories are similar - longstanding mitral valve prolapse without problems, then suddenly an echo shows it is more severe and must be fixed. We also both chose the Cleveland Clinic for surgery. I'm now over 3 months post-op and have recovered well. My apprehensions and fears were much worse than the actual experience of surgery and recovery. You are in excellent hands and will receive the best of care. Stay calm and hopeful - you'll be home and recovering soon!
