Yay! finally home 😊 now do your best in PT and you will get great results. Im a physical therapist and a pt. Today marks 1 month post op Mitral valve repair and I've been back to work after 3 wks. post-op. So, best advise: Listen to your body and listen to your Physical Therapist. Good luck Jackie! 💪🏼

Hi Jackie, tomorrow marks 3 wks since my surgery. It took 2 wks for my Heart rate to go down. My MD changed my beta blocker from Tropol 50 mg to Ethenolol 50 mg. I also experienced back pain the first wk and a half and my advise is to have someone give you a gentle massage. Believe me, it will get better. Hope you feel better oxox

Jackie Owens Hi! My cardiologist had me on 200 mg Motoprolol ER but my heart rate was dropping into the mid 50's. They cut it in half the other day and now my heart rate is sitting in the mid to high 80's, which isn't what they wanted either. I think my back pain is just a matter of finding a better way to sleep.

Elaine Cutri The middle of my back, between the shoulder blades was sore for many weeks. They told me it probably was probably from the position during surgery. I never found out for sure, but it's gone now. I took a pain med before going to bed through 7 weeks post op, just so I could sleep more comfortably.

Shirley Turner The pain relief medication is only for the short term. But I know how you feel about taking them.

Hi Jackie, today is one wk since i had my mitral valve repair ( min. invasive procedure). I only had pain in my chest one day which lasted 15 min. after i received Meds. Question: Did you find that beta blockers helped decrease your heart rate. Mine is been 110-120 and my blood pressure low and my surgery was on 9/11. Feel better :)

Jackie Owens Yeah the beta blockers have helped a lot. My heart rate stays down in the mid 80's. I take 75mg 3 x a day. The doctors experimented with those until they found the right balance. Otherwise my heart rate resting was sitting at 100-105. Not comfortable! Get better !

hi jackie i had a lot of back and shoulder pain after surgery and they gave me a pain patch that sticks to your back and change it every day for three weeks and it helped after three weeks the pain had eased and finally went away maybe it can help you or some other person here your heart brother steve (popeye)

Best wishes for your surgery! I hope this is your last one! I have a niece that had multiple surgeries on her heart and then by the time she was two she had to have a heart transplant and then again she needed another one this past December after she turned 13. I hope she doesn't have to do it again but I am sure she will at some point. Anyway, I hope this is your last one. And I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Hi Jackie, I'm 15 weeks post-op from my 4th OHS. I was also born with a bi-cuspid aortic valve. I was 7 when I had my first surgery. This last surgery was to repair an ascending aorta aneurysm. I also received an new, larger mechanical aortic valve and repaired Tri-cuspid valve. I should be good to go for a long time. In the last month my energy level has really increased. I still take the occasional rest in the afternoon, but I feel very good and very happy to have the surgery behind me. Best Wishes!

Elaine Cutri I was worried about the recovery after #4 and being older, late 50's, but I think the surgical process is getting better. I think this one was as easy as any of them. Yes there was pain and effort to work towards a successful recovery, but I'm pleased with the results. I'll keep an eye for your posts. Hi Jackie, I had my OHS at UCLA last August and have recommended them to other heart patients. I don't know if your previous surgeries were there, but if you have any questions about UCLA or the area feel free to ask. If you and your husband are bringing your MTBs I can point you to some decent trails.

Jackie Owens Hi there...I had my first three surgeries as a child at UCSF. I grew up in Los Angeles so I am lucky to know the area well (which is one reason I chose them) and I am lucky that I get to recover at my Dad's house in Palm Springs before I come back to Colorado. I have a patient where I work that had his heart surgery last year at UCLA and he is doing fantastic. My surgeon is Dr. Laks and is very highly sought after, from what I have read. I really liked him when I met him last month. Thanks for the info and I am glad to see you are doing so well.
