Esther Daniels Iām 2000, I was diagnosed with bicuspid aorta valve disease. I underwent valve replacement surgery in 2004 to replace by aorta valve with a St. Jude butterfly mechanical valve. They said it would last about 15 years. Itās now been 19 years. Iām not having any trouble with it: just have to take warfarin for the rest of my life. My question is, should I expect this valve to last a lifetime or be looking to have it replaced? What signs should I be looking for to determine if it needs to be replaced?

Hope it went super well, Gary. I had a mitral valve repair for regurgitation last year, January 24, 2022, also at the age of 70 at Baystate in Springfield MA. They also did an ablation while I was open and additionally put in a clip. I was in pretty good shape going in and that does make a difference. Recovery was definitely easier than I had imaginedāquicker, too. I hope it will be the case for you, as well. Wishing you the very best.
Praying that all went well. My husband had open heart surgery for aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation last years. He's doing well and back to work.

I'm praying for you, that your surgery is successful and recovery is fast. It really helps that you have kept yourself fit. If your recovery seems to be extraordinary long and difficult to you, just double down and keep pushing! It sounds corny I know, but as I'm sure you already know getting to this point, the mental and emotional aspects to surgery such as ours are just as primary as the physical. God Bless You Gary!
