The architecture of our house has been called as you suggest Georgian colonial , also federal colonial in some circles. I know it was built in 1790 by oliver alden a descendant of john alden of mayflower fame. To put it In perspective, george washington was president that year. My great grandfather bought it in 1901 and it had some interesting historical owners prior to that. None however had mitral valve surgery until me but one was killed in an indian uprising so anything is possible. Minimally invasive arrow.

To answer your question. Its really not a diagnosis its more like a very educated guess as there is no test to show epilepsy in dogs. There is also no cure. Its an electrical issue ( like a fib). Only in the brain, not the heart. They guess epilepsy once they rule out everything else like for example diabetes or brain tumor. All his vitals and blood work look great plus so far his bouts have not been frequent or long lasting. So for now we watch him and record any future seizures and hope they are short in duration and spaced far apart. So she, as the doctor, thinks epilepsy. Me as the pain in the neck that i am agree its possible but in all 4 instances, he ate something that made him vomit then had a seizure. So, in my non technical, its no coincidence , pea brain, it tells me that its also possible the vomiting caused the seizure and not epilepsy. Vomiting has been known to cause seizures in dogs and humans. Time will tell. But your concern and many others, gives me a warm feeling. He is a great dog and we love him. He was poked and prodded by the doctor and a pair of vet techs. They all got a dose of face kisses and loved it. Shadow, not me of course.

Deena Z Absolutely, Richard. The vagus nerve (with humans) is especially triggered at a chronic-level by dehydration and overexertion. Don't know if that relates to Shadow. -- Interesting given he was outside most of the time with the seizures. Richard Munson Yes, then they would bitch about your blood pressure. I witnessed the 4th seizure in the house from start to finish. 1/2 hour after he ate the first 3 chapters of a book i was reading. He vomited, immediately fell to the floor and had a 2 minute grand mal seizure. Longest 2 minutes of my life. Running in place, foaming at the mouth , eyes up in his head, moaning, panting. The first one last year i ran outside and tried to help him. Not recommended but i lost it. He bit down on my hand and went right thru to the other side. Had to lie about cause in the emergency room to avoid quarantine. Blamed a nail. tomorrow should be an interesting vet visit. 3 neuro surgeons and one specializes in seizures.

I found showering to be the most tiring. The chair helped. Nancy outside staring at me thru the glass doors was not the best. I might have yelled what are you looking at. Reminded me of my first communal shower after gym practice. Yes, i faced the wall.

Have done a ton of reading since your zinc deficiency post. I really appreciate it. We help more than heart patients. Its not so much a deficiency as it is processing it. His food and his daily vitamin have zinc. His food is salmon based as are his training treats. I also discovered that chiropractic might help so we are exploring that. Our groomer is a trained animal chiropractor. We go friday for a consult and grooming. Because he was outside and unattended for both episodes we have no knowledge of whether he ate something or what. His area is fenced in but squirrels, rabbits and birds can enter thru small openings. Its not a clean room. It could be canine epilepsy which there is no way to diagnose it other than a process of elimination. Plus, until it gets more frequent, it adds to the mystery. More frequent not being high on our list of wants. Again deena, thank you, you are great.

Richard Munson Correct. At this point its a mystery. In many cases they point to epilepsy as a last resort as there is no test for it. Process of elimination. We will try a few of the easier things like watching him like a hawk while outside, stopping his flea and tick pill, and consulting with a dog chiropractor to check his alignment. He eats the finest and gets plenty of zinc so we are for now not yet going into panic mode. Unless it occurs more frequently. As siberian huskies are one of the epilepsy breeds its always possible. Our previous 6 sled dogs never had it nor any of our daughters either but maybe the odds are against us. All dog breeds have their more common traits. One reason why mixed breed dogs tend to be healthier i am told. Thank you again for your insight. Truly an adams angel of the first degree.

Kimberly Eisenhut Yes, Deena, shoveling snow is just a no no. Do almost anything else please. An old friend of my familys husband had a massive heart attack with no warning at 39 years old shoveling heavy snow. Was in construction, great shape and otherwise healthy. She had 3 girls under the age of 5 at the time. Just not worth it. She was left with raising 3 children on her own and ws from Germany and hardly spoke any English to boot. Not an easy time for sure. She is doing well now and girls are all grown, but I would not wish that on anyone. I used to be very stubborn about it too and did it anyway often, but a few years ago I had pretty bad pain afterwards and felt like i couldnt breathe. I stopped after that.

I can only say this about sled dogs and including shadow we have had 6. 4 huskies and 2 malamutes. All had predatory instincts regards small animals. Yukon used to catch birds in mid flight. Cassie, my heart surgery girl, as much as i loved her had a string of incidents including a woodchuck that got into her pen , we were not home but it must have been ugly requiring snout stitches on her but her favorite was rabbits. The mystery was why they kept going in her pen. One would think the word would be out in the rabbit facebook page that certain death awaits in this enclosure. Of course she always got worms after so another vet bill. The vet used to say laughingly, oh oh, cassie ate another rabbit.

Richard Munson It was in january and it was a hole you can only dream about. He weighed in at 130 so picture size of hole. He ate one stud in half. It was a 5 hour demolishing project. As it turned out, we had a carpenter convert the opening to a door in the spring but the rest of the winter it was a piece of plywood. Way way back we had a husky named nikita who tore the drapes off a window and converted it into bite sized bits. Just today i was eating a store bought blueberry muffin and the paper cup fell on the floor. It was inhaled in one piece so fast by sweet little shadow i never had a second to extract it. Into the mouth, over the gums, look out stomach hear it comes. We love them though.

(Went to a surgeon in an upscale area of Washington, DC obviously.) Not sure what he ended up getting back in $$. Cake with the vanilla pudding so much better than icing. Deena Z Well, Richard, you were adventurous with your drink choice, which is admirable. I always say that no matter how old one gets there are always "good firsts" and always blessings. What was the cake for Nancy's birthday? I thought you liked coconut. As for my parrot, you have a good memory! She was my Mother's and was given to her by my eldest brother; both of whom passed away decades ago.
