Hey Daniel!

My one year anniversary is today, so I realized yours was yesterday. Happy first day of a brand new year my brother! I saw your last post and I'm glad you're (still) moving the narrative forward. I've been trying to get back on the bike this whole year, but persistent pericarditis has been holding me back. In all the most important things I'm 100% normal, but it's still hard to not quite be where I thought I'd be. Hoping all the best for you!

Daniel Green Hi Matt, Happy One Year Anniversary! We are actually now 13 months. I hope you’re doing well and progressing. My heart seems to be functioning well but some other issues have come up. I was diagnosed with anemia and very low iron. I realized it because my cycling really took a downward spiral. I did an echo stress and they said my heart is functioning just fine. Then we did blood work and found the issue. I’ve had two iron infusions since Dec. each time I felt great and my cycling returned to pre surgery levels. That felt fantastic! We are now trying to find out why!!! Anyway at 73 I guess I might have to get use to seeing doctors. It’s just hard to deal with!! I hope your life has returned to what I’m calling the new normal and you’re enjoying your family!! All the best, Dan

Daniel Green I'm just 6 weeks out of surgery and there were moments when I doubted that I would feel like I do now! My life is returning to normal. I'm walking 3-4 miles a day and just this week I was able to sit on a stationary bike for 40 minutes. I look so forward to getting back out on the road with my friends but have a few more weeks for that!

Early recovery can feel like one step forward and two steps back, but no matter how defeated you feel on the difficult days, healing is always happening! Deena Z Matthew- you have lots of company with feeling nauseous. Me too. Despite my warning the anesthesiologists that I tend to get that way, both of them said not much they could do. The meds only work so much. - they didn't sugarcoat.

My dad, Patrick, is planning to drop off cookies and stuffed animals for each of you (stuffed animals were his idea since I mentioned you both have families) at the hospitals front desk when he finishes work today in the city!

Rose Madura Hi Daniel, that's an unusual reason to postpone but I think I'd rather have a full staff of nurses who are fully dedicated to your care and who are familiar with working with the surgeon like a well oiled machine. Postponements are tough but sometimes necessary. God bless you on your journey.
