Good on you-----I am 2months and 4 days out from my open heart surgery and am off blood thinners (exception Baby Aspirin). I take half of an atenolol at nite and thats it. I am doing Cardiac Rehab 3 days a week and riding my wife's recumbent exercise bike about a 1/2 hour at a crack on the other 2. I walk and have gone fishing 1 time since the surgery. My Doc told me I can start lifting now just start out easy so, I use 25 lbs and lots of reps.
I had my aortic valve replaced and some of my ascending aorta replaced and an aneurysm fixed. So I am pleased to be here in more ways than one.
Glad to see your doing well.

Hi Bill, glad to hear you’re doing well! I saw you’re picture here and see you were wearing a “heart hugger” ? I think that’s what the white strap is. I’m wondering what you think of it? Worth the $? I’m going in for surgery a week from Tuesday and I’m thinking about ordering one of these, sounds like it would be helpful on theory.

Bill Pollard I liked it. My heart surgeon has his patients use it. I wore it for the 30 days after surgery. It also served as a good reminder about my healing sternum. Prayers for a successful surgery and strong recovery.
William Fults Thanks, My Dr. Hasn’t mentioned it, I think I’ll look into ordering one on my own.
Bill...what exact kind (brand, model#, etc.) of heart monitor do you wear when you go running, walking, etc? And where did you get it?
Thanks,
John Isham
Bill Pollard I use my iwatch to track my heart beat.

Wow... you have done well... any time you need alternative training come on out to my Yoga Class with Meditation on Wednesday evenings from 6;30 PM to 8:00 PM for strengthening and super stress relief and spiritual uplift. The class meets at a lovely place, Sattvic Space Yoga and Healing Studio on Airline Boulevard in Portsmouth -- just a couple of doors down from Norfolk County Feed & Seed and on the same side of the street. We start out with Yoga movement and breathing anyone can do and progress to Deep Relaxation [Yoga Nidra] ... and complete the session with Meditation techniques to leave you at Peace. Classes will resume January 2, 2019... after the holiday. This is a Community Service Donation Class and everyone is welcome even if at this point in life they are unable to donate.

Bill Pollard It is heart hugger. My heart surgeon has his patients wear the heart hugger instead of using a pillow. When you need to cough or sneeze you pull the handles together. Also when you sit up and down you hold the handles. It’s also a reminder that your breastbone is healing. I wore it pretty much 24 hours per day the first 30 days after surgery. The website is www.hearthugger.com.

This is all so fresh. I learned 8 days ago. Other than disrupting the great DG experience I’ve been enjoying since July, I’m accepting the disappointment of having to miss our Zone 25/26 Institute next month in Reno. But being disappointed is better than being dead ... and so now I wait to learn the procedure the Oregon Health Sciences University cardiologists favor for my fix. I’m mentally preparing to have my chest cracked if that’s what it takes but hoping to qualify for TAVR. And I’m looking forward to a strong DG finish after the holidays, Lord willing.
Thanks again for the inspiration!

Bill Pollard I should see Barry at the Zones 33-34 Leadership Summit in Norfolk, VA ten miles from my house. I’m just going to the COL training as I’m the alternate for my district. I was the delegate in 2013. Barry was our Director when I was a DGE. Any update on your surgery?
