Hello Barry, I had mitral valve repair in December 2017 and 14 months later had a mitral valve replacement in February 2019. Having had 2 open heart surgeries, I can assure you that I did not experience any major pain, seriously! Did take pain meds as ordered. Second recovery was much easier as I rented a lift chair, which helped me be independent by not having to ask assistance to stand up. Found that it was not comfortable trying to sleep for about a month post surgery as had to sleep on my back. Other than that, no problem. Hope this helps.

Bonnie Stone-Hope Apparently standard of care is to repair. In my case, that did not work and within a few months, I again had severe regurgitation, so had to have replacement. Hence, second surgery, but it worked second time :) with the replacement, that was 6 years ago, fine ever since
