The health risks and concerns specific to mitral valve disease are downright scary.

How scary? Watch this video to find out why we're launching a global campaign, known as "Mitral Valve Disease Awareness Week", to raise awareness and encourage effective treatment of this deadly disease.

To raise awareness to the health risks and the treatment advantages of mitral valve disease, HeartValveSurgery.com is teaming up with the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Penn Medicine Heart and Vascular Center at the University of Pennsylvania Health System to launch "Mitral Valve Disease Awareness Week", today, Monday, April 10.

See the press release for this special initiative!

Keep on tickin,
Adam

P.S. For the deaf and hard of hearing members of our community, I have provided a written transcript of this video below.

Adam Pick: Hi everybody, It's Adam and I have an important announcement for the wonderful members of our community. I am excited to share that today, Monday, April 10, HeartValveSurgery.com will launch Mitral Valve Disease Awareness Week to raise awareness to the global health burden.

The statistics for mitral valve disease are downright alarming.

  • Mitral valve disease impacts 1.8% of the population.

  • Sadly, there is a 50% mortality rate for patients with severe mitral valve regurgitation who do not get treatment within 5 years

  • And, although there are many therapies to treat mitral valve disease, only 15% of patients get treatment

  • Lastly, and it's a biggie… Up to 75% of people are not aware of mitral valve disease.

This is no doubt about it. Mitral valve disease is a big problem. It's a problem that the HeartValveSurgery.com team and community are ready to take on. Thanks to the sponsors of Mitral Valve Disease Awareness Week – Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California and Penn Medicine Heart and Vascular Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania… Starting on April 10, for 7 days, we are going to launch a global, episodic, digital campaign that syndicates new educational content featuring mitral valve experts sharing their unique thoughts and strategies for the management and treatment of mitral valve disease.

While this worldwide effort to raise awareness to mitral valve disease is new, I'd encourage everybody in our community to get involved. You can simply like, share or comment on all the great posts coming your way. You never know how your activity on social media might raise awareness to mitral valve disease and potentially save someone's life.
