About Me (In My Own Words)
I've had a heart murmer for over 20 years and 5 years ago my general Doctor decided it was time to see a cardiologist. Dr. Raja Nazir analyzed my echo cardiogram and saw that I had Aortic Stenosis. He estimated about 5 years before I would have to replace the valve.
I was 40lbs overweight and didn't exercise. Dr. Nazir wanted to see me loose 20lbs. The first year I really didn't do much but the second year my wife got me in gear and by the end of the second year I had lost 40lbs and felt much better. I have never had any real symptoms.
Last June Dr Nazir said the numbers in the latest echo cardiogram justified surgery any time. If I wasn't having any symptoms I could wait if I wanted. I wanted. I saw him again in January and we decided there was no reason to wait any longer. I was still not having any real symptoms but I did notice that I wasn't able to exercise as hard as I used to.
The surgery is scheduled and while I'm anxious about it I'm also ready.
