About Me (In My Own Words)
I was told, from my early teens, that I had and irregular heart beat. But being very afraid of any medical procedure I just put off doing anything about it. Finally, at age 63 everything caught up with me. Long story short I had to have open heart surgery on Dec.9, 2010.
After about 3 weeks I was sent home but had to return to the emergency room in approximately 4 weeks when my incision became infected. I was sent home again and had home nursing care. They taught my husband and me how to take care of the incision and it has healed nicely. Sounds as if everything should be progressing as expected and I should be doing many of the things I used to do but on a limited basis. RIGHT?????? Wrong. I have a very hard time remembering things, I have a difficult time putting my medications together, remembering if I took them and when. ( I am on 13 different meds.) I am so tired that I have to return to bed shortly after I get up, I go back to bed around 3 p.m. for about 2 hours, get up and sit in my chair the rest of the day and then do it all again the next day. Can anyone tell me if this is normal with open heart surgery recovery or what. My doctor has been told all these things so don't tell me to tell my doctor. Guess I just need someone to talk to who has been through this recovery ordeal.
