About Me (In My Own Words)
I began having fevers, swelling of feet and hands, night sweats, etc beginning February 2012. My conditions was misdiagnosed by Veterans Hospital as "gout" in February 2012 (2 trips to the ER, and my primary doctor).
I finally listened to my wife, and consulted with private doctors in March 2012. I was referred to a cardiologist who initially did an echocardiogram, then referred my for a Transesophageal echocardiogram (T.E.E.).
I was diagnosed with infective endocarditis via T.E.E. April 2012. I was immediately hospitalized, placed on IV antibiotics for 7 1/2 weeks. Had a rough summer (developed recurring severe tinnitus, headaches, jitteryness, etc).
I changed cardiologists, and had a follow up T.E.E. done October 2012. My current diagnosis is moderate to severe mitral valve regurgitation (apparently there is scarring on the mitral valve from the endocarditis).
My cardiologist has referred me for potential surgery a(repair or replacement) pending.
