About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm 62 years old. I first learned of my aortic valve "murmur" at the age of 17. I had played high school football in San Diego Calif for 2 years and was taking a required physical for my senior year of football when it was discovered. My cardiologist at the time predicted I would need surgery before my 40th birthday.
Although, I was classified 4F for military service and could not get life insurance, I don't believe I suffered in any other way throughout the years. The good news is, I took very good care of myself over the last 45 years. Perhaps that helped me maintain a very active life.
I am now ready for valve replacement surgery. Although, I'm nervous about the recovery, I am eager to get this done!
I am blessed to have a great family (3 children, a thoughtful and caring daughter-in-law, 1 grand child, brother and sisters) and several wonderful friends.
I look forward hiking to the top of Mt San Gorgonio Mountain (11,500 feet, which is visible out side my window) in about 1 year!
