I had a similar condition and was moderately severe for about 6 years until this past summer when it went full throttle (severe.)

I too am awaiting my mitral valve surgery on April 21 at the Cleveland Clinic - so I can't give you any advice on what to expect post-surgery, but I'm sure you will find a lot of information from others here on the HVJs. Best of luck!
