Congrats on your good progress, Brian. Don't know if your doc will refer you to a cardiac rehab program or not. Adam Pick makes a pretty good case in his book about doing the rehab program. Anyway, thought I'd share I went to a local program a couple years ago following a heart issue. And then, doggone if I don't have another issue and had to have a mitral valve repair last March. I'm attending the UNM Hospital cardiac rehab program this time and, although the facility is no where near as fancy as the other place, the UNMH program is far superior...my opinion. Hey Brian, Just lookin' at the latest HVJ entries and noticed you, a felllow NM person. May your recovery be speedy and as painless as possible. I remember the first day after surgery when I woke up I felt like...well better not to say here what I told the nurse when she asked my how I felt, but it got better and better and it wasn't long before I wasn't pushing that little button connected to the IV that released the feel good juice, and not long before the nurse was telling me if I would take one of their pills, I might walk better because I would feel better....then no pills at all. It seemed to go so fast. I tried to be good about journaling at HVJ. I'm from "over the hill", so to speak, Cedar Crest; had my heart "valve job" Mar 11th, and now about half way through the cardiac rehabililatation program at UNM Hospital, the place I chose over another local program because of their rehab philosophy based on science to get the best results for an old(er) guy trying to be an athlete. Where I am in the rehab process is I am intimidated by our running training group's 10 mile run tomorrow morning a long Tramway and I'm really frustrated I haven't been able to run the whole, about one mile hill on the north side of Albuquerque Academy without doing some walking yet. The docs and their team that took care of me for the surgery, and the rehab people, have been great to/for me. Best to you....Barry Stone on the other side of the mountain.
Thanks for the link and for the way for us to hear about how you are doing. Remember, you are in our prayers and we're looking forward to a speedy recovery. Don't forget to let your sister know I'm just down the street if you need me. :) We love you and hope you have a speedy recovery!
