Just a little history. I had my mitral valve replaced on February 24, 2005, and recovered very well, at least physically. I was back to work in no time at all, and, shortly after, out mowing my lawn.
What I had not counted on was the dramatic change in personality that occurred, and not a change for the better. Before two months had passed I attempted suicide. And now, all these years later, it is still possible for me to believe that, in addition to the mitral valve itself, the doctor implanted an evil spirit or two. I have gone from being a man everyone liked an admired to being one I don't like. I have completely lost control of my temper and have lost many jobs as a result of this. I want to go back to being the old Bill, the likeable one.

Darlene Smith I've heard of impairment and confusion after heart surgery, but nothing like this. Sounds like a mental health professional is needed, and one who has some expertise in this area. Have you tried that route? Are you going to need another replacement or do you have a mechanical valve?
