Darlene Smith Did they say why the valve needs to be replaced? I'd definitely get an opinion from a mitral valve repair specialist at a reference center/high volume center for repair. Having a replaced valve at 8 years old seems far too young to be on blood thinners her whole life.

Susan Lynn Are you able to travel for your daughter's consultation and surgery outside of Canada? The repair rates of mitral valves are pretty high in the US - as Darlene mentioned. The repair surgeries can also be approached in several different ways to achieve the best result for such a young girl.
