I’ll be going to KU Medical Center for a CT Scan and Carotid Scan on October 19. I’ll also have an initial consult with my surgeon. On November 1, I return for a lung-function evaluation and angiogram (plus stints and/or angioplasty, if indicated). Following those test/procedures, we’ll know whether I require open-heart surgery or can have TAVR.
Still no symptoms, which seems to pleasantly surprise everyone (including me!). Trying to get my 10K steps in most days, as I’ve been told to stay active in advance of surgery.
I’m pretty much in isolation at home, as I was exposed to Covid last Sunday. No symptoms yet, so I’m hoping I dodged that one. I was going to get a Covid booster and flu shot, but that’s on hold now until we’re sure I’m not Covid positive. If I do test positive, I’m advised to wait at least 30 days for vaccines. More waiting for Mr. Impatient.
I’m so ready to have a plan.

Know you will get through this and YOU WILL BE OKAY, because the surgery is so low risk now with the experienced surgeons. Thank god your good family doctor discovered it, so it did not get any worse. One day at a time.

Pamela Gregory Hi Tom. It is definitely shocking news to say the least. Finding out and waiting is much worse than the actual surgery. While not a walk in the park, if you find a really good place, they know what they are doing and you will be ok 👍
Grace Mason Glad you found this site Tom. It is great comfort and support 💓

Allen Carkner I too had critical stenosis and it was a shock. And I knew that I had moderate stenosis as a highscooler and it was still shocking to find out it progressed so fast. This site and the people here are very kind and helpful if you have questions. Wish you the best on your heart journey.
