Looking a bit tired from the insomnia but top of incision is doing fine. Bottom half still red and a welt. Mitral valve repaired on Oct 14th. This pic taken on Dec.31st Happy New Year!
Looking a little sleepy but very good! Is everything going more smoothly now?
Yes, I did take 2 mg of melatonin last night and didn't seem to lay awake as long but think it's made me a big groggier than usual. Maybe take 1 mg tonight. Plus I did do some snow moving yesterday- 2 feet at one time is too much!
Hi Susan, my surgery date was Oct. 19 and my scar looks exactly like what you described! Guess that's normal...I have to take ambien when I can't sleep, one half tab works fast, no waking up during the night, and no groggy effects. It's proscribed so maybe ask your doctor... Read more.

The incision shield was mentioned in Adam's book, so I purchased one and it has been a lifesaver. The purpose of the shield is to keep shirts, blouses, etc. off of your incision to prevent irritation. It also allows for air movement to help the incision to heal. The shield... Read more.

So back on 2 Colchicine/day-still some discomfort. The cardiologist called Wed and told me he is putting me on a course of Prednisone and to not go to rehab this week, take it easy. Will start the Prednisone in the morning. Hope it helps.
Sounds like a plan. Hope you are feeling better in a few days.
Sorry you're having this setback. Hopefully, you'll have things in control soon and can continue with rehab.

I started rehab Wednesday and Thursday the pericarditis was back. At Friday's rehab,I told the nurse and I did none of the arm movement machines. Last night (Saturday) the pain really flared up but the right shoulder was the worst pain. Took two extra strength Tylenol, put some arnica gel on... Read more.
Oh, Susan, I'm so sorry you're in all of this pain! I hope the pericarditis can get resolved soon. I'm having trouble with my left shoulder, too, and can't sleep in bed because of it. Though mine hasn't given me that level of pain. Hoping you can get real relief... Read more.
So sorry about this. Pericarditis is a very tricky thing to treat. Please find a cardiologist that understands the length of time you need to be on medicine and how to taper off it. Immediate stopping of medicine causes it to flare back up...hope this helps a little. Thinking of... Read more.
Talked to the on call Dr. at my cardiologist office and he agreed that I should take the Colchicine twice a day, he said if I can stand the side effect to take it 2xday for a week. Pain is getting better-not so intense and constant. My cardiologist did mention... Read more.
Good...so glad you're getting in. I would find out about how to taper of the colchicine at the end of 3 months....crucial since it's not a medicine to immediately go off of. I went down to once a day for two weeks, then I think even 1/2 a tablet for... Read more.
