I am 2 months post aortic valve replacement, aortic repair, and closure of left atrial appendage after a severe atrial fibrillation attack sent me to the emergency room. I only had a few days to prepare for the surgery. Now I am trying to recover and do my best best to keep a positive attitude but I'm find myself very depressed most of the time. Before I was discharged from the hospital I was also diagnosed with severe anemia and pre diabetes. I already have macular degeneration degeneration so could possibly lose my sight on top of everything else . I am only 69 but there is no joy in my life anymore . My husband is very supportive and understanding but I feel so depressed and angry angry most of the time. I feel terrible asking total strangers for advice but maybe someone here has felt the same way I do. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome. This is my first post and I am sorry it is so sad.

Pat Bluemel Cardiac blues are a real thing. Frustration is too. Talk to your MD about therapy to get you over this hump of depression. (I take lexapro). Also, make sure you are getting plenty of light. Sit in the sun a bit each day and find one thing every morning to feel grateful for. You'll get over this. One day at a time.

Marie Myers I experienced the roller coaster emotions for many months. I used relaxing, calming, and acceptence videos on UTube to help me cope, and I still use them daily. The blue feelings have lessened with time. I keep up with some physical activity, sunlight, and yoga/meditation. It will get better with time. Don't hesitate to try an antidepressant if your doc thinks it may help you. Keep us posted!
