I had the HOCM procedure and did well but had a stroke with cluster headaches after my surgery (a little over a week later). All is fine now. Has anyone else had those two things occur after their surgery?

Marie Myers Sorry to hear about your complications. Unfortunately stroke is always a possibility with open heart surgery. I did not experience this infrequent complication myself, but have heard other patients who have had strokes. I did, however, experience dozens of migraine auras in the weeks following my open heart surgery. Perhaps cluster headaches are another possibility. Just curious, did you ever have cluster headaches prior to your surgery? Hope the rest of your recovery is smooth sailing!

Klara Čičić I, like Marie, am having multiple daily migraine aura lasting up to 30 munutes (it's visual aura, scintillating scotoma) with or without migraine headache afterwards. I even had sensory aura 2 times now (numbness of part of my hand that lasted 10-15minutes). All those neurological events were absent or rare before the open heart surgery. I am hoping it will all go away in a few months...

Rose Madura I've had aura migraines for as long as I can remember and they seem to have gotten more frequent after surgery. I still get them to this day. I laugh because I discussed it with my cardiologist to see if any of his other patients got them and if they could be related to the bicuspid valve I was born with and he referred me to an eye doctor.
