Robert Stanko January 2016 - Currently feeling very weak and tired. Spoke to my cardiologist on 18th January. I was advised that heart wall had weakened and although I am getting 100% blood oxygen levels I am finding it difficult to breath at times. Keeping the fluid off helps. I'm 174cm tall and down to approx. 64kg in weight.
We discussed that we may possibly need to investigate a Heart Transplant. In the meantime getting blood tests and Xrays and CT chest results back.

Sophia Ridley Gosh! I know of someone indirectly who has had his heart rebuilt (surgery involved international video conferencing as new techniques were used and case unique) and is now contemplating mountain climbing this summer and runs half marathons! I can find out more if you want, his surgery was done at The Brompton, London.

Robert Stanko Thankyou for your kind words and best wishes.
Jim, its a mechanical heart valve. Post op there were leaks around or through the sutures holding the valve in position. What surgeons (Dr Tanous) did to combat this at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, was to insert umbrella like plugs through the holes around the valve to close the leaks. This was done via transcatheter surgery. They pushed the plug through the holes and released them. Imagine a Star Wars Tie Fighter looking titanium wire plug with a stop on both ends once in place. The aim was then to have fibrous tissues grow over the plugs and seal the leaks. This has been successful. However its my other valves and other structural issues that are giving me grief right now.
Still waiting on the call about the CT test results of the lungs, but Im just taking it easy day by day at the moment.

Robert Stanko Well so far I have a mechanical aortic valve (several redos and 3 or 4 replacements between 1991-2001), moderate leak in my own prolapsed mitral valve, homographed tissue pulmonary valve (19 years and counting), and unfortunately one of my biventricular pacemaker wires is pushing against the septal leaflet of my tricuspid valve and causing a leak and fluid retention and lethargy. Got a problem with my red and white blood cell count now and platelets are very low. Been on warfarin now for 27 years. Been a bit of an issue when evasive surgeries were required like gall bladder removal and kidney stone blasting, but am now due for all 4 wisdom teeth to be removed before May due to endocarditis infection risk. Im 43 years young and they still havent found the cause of the abdominal pain. A gastroscopy showed just mild gastritis in my belly made a bit more tender due to AC treatment. Within next 2 months I also am up for a colonoscopy to check if the pain is coming from the other end. I better keep a list of everything this body has been through! Lol. A bone marrow sample from my pelvis was removed without anaesthetic and I am producing and regenerating plenty of new cells but my red cells are dieing off quickly. Still under investigation by haemotologist. Hopefully its not my own body attacking and killing my blood cells like an auto immune disorder. A Pacemaker wire is also playing up which is a bit worrying because I have complete heart block from the amount of scarring from all my previous surgeries and couple of ablations thus far. Getting some runs of NSVT also. 2016 was a very bad year for me. I hope now in 2017 there is some action that will make me feel better. Feeling tired daily and lethargic due to valves and cardiomyapathy (enlarged and weakened heart). Crossing fingers I dont need to go down the path of a cardiac transplant yet as Im at 30% Ejection Fraction. Just putting thoughts into words to look back and read one day when I am better. I have 3 children aged 7-15 that need their daddy as much as I need them. Everyday is a struggle breathing but the diuretics help every 2 or 3 days without dehydrating myself daily. I feel this year theres a change coming on. Hopefully all good. Keep well everybody and exercise daily.
