Hello. I am a little over 2 years out from my Mitral Valve repair and maze. It was a success and there was no leakage post repair. I had mine done robotically. The robotic ports which went through my right chest seem to have caused some paralysis and breathing limitations. I was an avid long distance runner before the procedure and struggle now to run as I am out of breath quickly and the right chest becomes very tight and painful. I am wondering if anyone else who had this done robotically experienced these issues and if so did they go away on their own or was there any other interventions that helped. Thank you.

Richard Munson I had minimally invasive mitral/ maze in january 21 and still get a twinge once in awhile on my right side. 2 years out seems like a long time but i was told that nerves grow back slowly, which in some cases get cut. I am interested in whether your maze procedure worked. I am 1 week into a 2 week z patch test to see if i still have my asymtomatic a fib. If after 2 weeks it is gone we may consider ditching the eliquis i take twice a day.

Good afternoon everyone. I am having my mitral valve repaired robotically next Wednesday the 17th by Dr. Clifton Lewis at UAB. I am also having a Maze.
If anyone who has had this done robotically would give me some feedback that would be wonderful.
Level of pain and discomfort?
Recovery time frames?
Any other advice?
Thank you.

Nancy Takahashi Hi Rich, I had mitral valve repair robotically almost 1 year to the day, I also had maze. I did very well with the pain level, the hospital kept me very comfortable and sent home with pain killers, don't really remember ever being too uncomfortable with that. My problem came that I went into a-fib about 2 weeks after surgery. That was uncomfortable for me and had a hard time sleeping from that. They waited several weeks to cardio convert me back due to the heart is still inflamed from the surgery. But, once I was back in normal sinus rhythm I felt great. Advice, try not to worry and it's not as bad as you're thinking. No trip to the beach but you can do this. You need to have this done and before you know it you it will be all behind you.
