I spent a day at Henry Ford Hospital last week and had a couple of tests; an Echo and a CT scan and met with Dr. William O'Neil, the surgeon. It was a long day, but meeting him was good. He was most encouraging about having the TAVR procedure done on my aortic valve. My next step is to meet with a cardiovascular surgeon and get a sign off. I am anxious to get this done and over with and excited to see that it might be a TAVR.
UPDATE:
My appointment with the cardiovascular surgeon was out two weeks and they suggested that I could see one here in town and that might speed up the process. I was able to get one a couple of days ago. But, things did not go that well. He did not feel that I was high risk for OHS, but low risk. That was disappointing news. Not sure what next steps will be at this point. I believe that Medicare still requires folks to be high risk to cover the procedure.

Susan Lynn TAVR is being done on low risk patients. You may want to make a call to Medicare to confirm. It's far more cost effective than OHS, so you may be surprised. Good luck!

I have a question - has anyone had experience with Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit? In particular, Dr. William O'Neill? My cardiologist has recommended me to see him about doing a TAVR procedure which he feels I should be able to have done. Apparently he did the first one in the United States and is working on other new techniques. I am new to all this.

Wanda Mroz I had my ohs in August of 2015. I did not have Dr O’Neill but I had the best surgeon for a difficult mitral valve repair, and the best care at Henry Ford Hospital. You can see my latest post about my latest experience. Dr O’Neill is highly regarded.
