Susan Lynn Welcome, Pati! How good of you to help your boyfriend with this research. Since the mitral valve is a functional 'open and close' valve, repairing it takes unique skill. You want to find a surgeon who does at least 100/year with a high rate of success.
It's definitely convenient when you have an accomplished specialist in your area, but geography is way down on the list of requirements when it comes to heart surgery. Find the surgeon, then do further research on the hospital. Best of luck in your search.
