I’m wondering WHY my Mitral valve clip procedures didn’t worked out last Nov 29th Wed performed at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center by Dr Alan John. Now my Cardio surgeon Dr Seemal Mumtaz suggested to have me an open heart surgery to fix my Mitral valve & at the same time fix my Aortic valve. Does anyone have had the same experienced in the past. Any advice or suggestions for me before I will have my open heart surgery procedure in January 2024. Marie Myers I imagine the Mitraclip procedure is not always 100% effective in every case .Perhaps it couldn’t solve your particular issue. Also, the Mitraclip will not help the Aortic Valve problem either. I am guessing this is why the docs have suggested you undergo open heart surgery. Hope this explanation helps.

Susan Lynn MitraClip was in trials six years ago when I was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation. It was originally designed for patients who were high risk and couldn't undergo surgical repairs. Its use has since been expanded, but I'm wondering why you were given that option when you need an aortic valve repair, too. I would definitely get another opinion. You may be a candidate for a minimally-invasive side incision mini-thoracotomy that will allow an experienced valve surgeon to successfully perform both procedures. It's important to research and ask questions. You are your own best advocate. Please keep us posted.

I was diagnosed with two valves leaks the Aortic and Mitral. Four days ago my two valves clipping procedure was done but didn’t pushed through Mitral valve was so active. Heart Surgeon suggested to do the Plan B which is “Open Heart Surgery” Is there any other option to clip both valves? What do you think 🤔 of this Plan B? Please share your thoughts! Thank you.

Susan Lynn Oldy - Welcome! I'm not sure I fully understand the 'clipping' procedure. I'm thinking that they may have tried MitraClip on your mitral valve, but I'm not familiar with clipping on an aortic valve. That being said, depending on the severity of your leaks, surgery would be the likely next step. Access to the heart can vary from robotic to full sternotomies, but repairs are pretty much the same once they get in there. Unfortunately, these conditions don't improve on their own. They may hold steady for awhile, but generally they present other risks if left untreated. Research your specific conditions and speak to multiple surgeons. Research is critical in making informed decisions. Best of luck!

Oldy Coronel FYI My cardio surgeon will replace my Aortic valve with a cow’s tissue but I don’t really know how she will fix my Mitral valve, all at the same time with open heart surgery. I will be seeing her in two weeks to discuss more details about my situations.

Oldy Coronel FYI As I’ve said, Dr Alan John performed my Mitral valve clip procedure last Nov 29th on both groins right and left with trans catheter valve clip which didn’t work out or not suitable with my Mitral valve. The procedured was performed at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Centre. Thank you.
