On the long road to fixing a congenital bicuspid valve, changing cardiologist shortly to help me better understand the reason for my fourth stroke and how it relates to the valve issue. I'm wanting to fix my valve so I can continue riding my bike. I currently have no symptoms from the valve but taking medications (anti-coagulants, statins and diuretics). I want to better understand the future prognosis without medication.

Marie Myers I am wondering if your strokes are more related to your cholesterol and lipid levels rather than your bicuspid valve. As cholesterol builds up in your arteries, inflammation increases and the risk of stroke (and heart attack and peripheral arterial disease) all increase. I had no symptoms from by bicuspid aortic valve either, but I did find out I had a LOT of cholesterol built up in my right carotid artery. That was putting me at risk for stroke. I started statins, lost weight, and improved my diet. My right carotid improved significantly, lessening my risk for stroke. Hope that story helps you to understand.
