So I just signed into the blog. Having aortic valve replaced and bypass on left descending anterior coronary artery at Duke Hospital on March 4. Surgeon is Dr. Jacob Schroder recommended by Dr. Glower. Everything has been moving very fast over the past few weeks. I was diagnosed with moderate stenosis of the aortic valve almost 4 years ago but I was asymptomatic until a few weeks ago. My wife and I are competitive ballroom dancers and we were at a competition in Raleigh, NC on January 30. After dancing waltz, tango, foxtrot and quickstep I was feeling fine. We had a couple hours to change into our latin costumes before we competed in the latin portion of the competition. We started with samba and then into cha cha cha. about half way into the cha cha I felt light headed. That was a new sensation and a scary one. That was the end of the comp for us.
Monday I called my cardiologist and was scheduled for a echocardiogram. The results showed the valve had gone to severe status and we scheduled a heart cath. That verified the echo and also showed a blockage in one artery. We live in Greensboro, NC and decided to talk to a local surgeon. He was very impressive, but we also decided since one of the best hospitals in the US was only an hour away to go to Duke. We were fortunate to meet with Dr. Glower and he recommended an associate who performs the surgery I need almost every day. That was on Feb 18 and now I am set up for surgery on Friday. I am 69 years old and in pretty good shape, but I am getting more nervous by the hour. Will check back in when its over and let you all know how it went.

Barbara Laurie Mel, you're in waay better shape than I, just the "cha" would've put me under!! Nervousness is expected, reading Adams book and many posts has at least given me a realistic view that puts at bay nonsensical fears and fancies. Lots of people here to talk to. Best Regards and prayers for the 4th❤️❤️

susan kotansky I'm a dancer too..and have gradually eased my way back through yoga. 5 months out and I'm doing everything again.. something I doubted for awhile. You'll see before you know it you'll be waltzing and all the rest. Nervousness is pár for the course but once it's over you'll be concentrating on your recovery. I wish you the very best!!!

Kate Watson I think your active lifestyle will also help ensure that you are in good overall health prior to surgery. I'm sure everything will go well and you'll be back to dancing in no time! Sounds like a great choice to go with the best surgeon possible.
