Happy New Year to all here! My name is Mary and I’m being retested after one year for HVS. I spent last year recovering from yet another heart attack, and hospitalization plus many tests. My heart health team decided that I was probably about a year out from needing a new valve. That was March 2023. Heart attack was December 2023. The one prior was May 2021, followed by emergency hospitalization and subsequent stenting. I believe my CABG has deteriorated and is in failure, according to test results. I cannot be scented further, according to test results and MD opinion. I’m frightened beyond words. If anyone here has a word of encouragement for me, I’d be most grateful.
Wishing you all a healthy New Year! Mary

Pamela Gregory Mary, It sounds like you are about ready for a new valve, in that case they always test to see if while they are in there the patient needs any help from blockages. In your case it seems like they will be able to fix you failing stents and your valve at the same time and get you all fixed up. Open Heart Surgery while no walk in the park, is very doable. I am the biggest wimp when is comes to pain and I made it through last year surprisingly well. It is a long, slow, steady recovery but I think it was no where near as bad as my mind had me believe.

Susan Lynn I whole-heartedly agree with Pamela! I'm also a wimp and got through OHS. Procedures have come a long way and the professionals involved in cardiac surgery have it down to a finely choreographed science! Your imagination is worse than anything you'll experience. Try to relax until game day. We did it, you can, too!
