The surgery was a success on the 6th. I had surgery on the 7th for blood clots in my left hand. This set me back. I don't know which is worse. Came home Wednesday night. So glad to be home. Now I have home care to monitor me and my protime. I have lieden factor 5. Even though the surgeon removed the part of the heart which causes blood clots I still got them. I'm forcing myself to get washed and dressed every day. I am also sleeping in bed. I refuse to sleep in a recliner. It is so good to be home.
Talked with Dr. Kress today. I will have a tissue valve inserted. Reason being less chance for blood clots. Also, the blood filter will be inserted Wednesday. This is to aid in preventing blood clots to my lungs. It will be removed 2 weeks after surgery. He will do it on my visit after surgery. This will be the last time I will see him.
His office will also set-up for me to meet with lung, kidney, and my cardiologist after I am released from the hospital.
Then, talking with Jackie in his office (she has been a great aid) I have to be at the hospital on the 5th. At 6am. This is so I can have the filter inserted. Then I will be admitted and have the rest of my pre-op tests.
Today was a busy day on the phone.
Today I found out that a blood filter will be inserted that prevents blood clots. This device will be removed before I leave the hospital.
I also stated that I am afraid of the breathing tube. The dr. Nurse says as soon as I can show them I can breath on my own the tube will be removed. She also told me I will be restrained until the tube is removed, so that I don't pull it out. I told Jack about this.
I'm still waiting to talk to the dr., but at least I have more info and feel more at ease.
After much aggravation the dr. office finally got all my records. His assistant wanted to schedule surgery on March 4th, but I am on warfarin and just cannot stop it. I also have Leiden factor 5 which causes blood clots.
The surgeon says that he will also tie off the sack on the heart which causes blood clots. So we know my heart will be stopped for 4 hours. I also know I will have an artificial valve.
The worst part now is waiting for a day to be determined. I'm just grateful my final appointment with the surgeon will be a phone call to finalize everything.
Going to see the Cardiologist is an outing for us, it's an hour's drive to the Clinic. While seeing the card I found out that none of my medical records have been sent to my surgeon. Having surgery out of network is causing quite a problem. When we got home I had to call the hospital where the cath was done to get my records forwarded. Now to continue waiting to schedule surgery.
