Denise Campbell I'm curious, what kind of valve do doctors recommend for someone so young. I know you must be beside yourself at the prospect of your son having such a big surgery, but with his youth and great doctors out there, he will come thru like a champ.

Cathleen Weed I had the Ross Procedure at 22...I'm 44. Due to an aortic aneurysm I had to get the aortic valve redone 11 years later. However, prior to the aneurysm damaging that valve it was actually doing REALLY well still (and I was extremely active) and would have lasted for many years beyond that, so just make sure to address that aneurysm. Also, ask about connective tissue disorders since he's so young. The donor pulmonary valve from the Ross is totally fine still 22 years later and hopefully will last forever. I recently had TAVR for another bovine tissue valve. That's the future in my opinion 💛. So that's my Ross Procedure experience.

Kenny Knox Hi Lori - I had the Ross when I was 15. It served me well until last year (age 33) when I had an AVR. The valve lasted 18 years! Well above the norm. I will need to replace the pulmonary valve again, most likely next year. Coumadin use is no problem for me. I feel great!
