My daughter had a aortic stent placed 10 days ago. She had a coarctation of her aorta since birth, surgical repair at 6 days old which led to a renarrowing as she grew. She has a history of migraines with aura, about 6 a year prior to the stent. Now since waking from the procedure she has had daily migraines with aura. Usually she notices a vision disturbance then follwed by headache pain and ofter tingling fingers or corner of mouth. They follow the same pattern as before the stent except they are daily. Anyone elso have anything similar? Both her cardiologist and neurologist aren't sure why this is going on or what to expect long term. She is 11 yrs old.

Susan Lynn Kristin - I'm so sorry to read your daughter has had to undergo multiple surgeries. That must have been so hard on her and your family.
I was a migraine sufferer before my surgery and had a migraine on my second post-op day in the hospital and some at home during recovery. However, in the months that followed, i had significantly fewer headaches and still have very few. Ten days into recovery is so soon after her procedure, it's difficult to tell whether or not they will be temporary.
A change in routine, diet, sleep schedule, etc. are all common triggers. I suspect you'll see a decline in the frequency in a few weeks. Please keep us posted.

Rose Madura Hi Kristin, you sure have been through a lot. I had auras and headaches all my life and continue to get them after surgery. My cardiologist said it's unrelated to heart issues or else he'd hear more about it from other patients and he has over 3000 patients! So he referred me to see an eye doctor. But many on this site have experienced them so who knows! I hope and pray you can get some answers for your child.

Marie Myers I am sorry to hear about her migraines. I, too, had them in my teens and they were miserable. Luckily for me, mine decreased with age. Prior to my open heart surgery, I would only get auras every few weeks, with no headache or nausea. After my surgery, I had dozens of auras daily, and they also tapered-off with time. I think the stress of the surgery increased the frequency of the auras. I hope hers will lessen with time like mine did.
