Worried wife. My husband age 64 was just diagnosed with sever aortic stenosis. His cardiologist had to put off his angiogram due to intravenous fluids shortage at our Seattle hospital. We cant schedule his surgery til after this is performed. I keep reading how dangerous sever aortic stenosis is, he has been having symptoms for over a year but didnt say anything. Now his chest pressure and shortness of breath seems to be gradually getting worse over the past month, how long can this surgery be put off? I am so worried about him.

Valerie Allen I’m sure you are worried, Kim. It is a stressful situation without shortages. Unfortunately, only your husband’s surgeon can answer your questions as he/she has the reports. My best advice is to find out the details. If you aren’t working with a surgeon yet, as you only mentioned a cardiologist, perhaps working with your intended surgeon to get the test done would work better? Just find out what you can.
Richard Munson Correction. Guess it comes from north carolina and hurricane helene.

Robert Miller From what I heard, the shortage is being addressed pretty promptly. Having said that, based on your description, you can't put this off much longer. Things can go bad pretty quickly (weeks/months). Observe your husband and look out for swelling in his legs, wheezing, gurgling when he breaths especially when laying down, etc.
