Hi all, I just joined today, so if I am doing this wrong, please just don't make me bleed (I'm on coumadin).
I had valve surgery back in 1997 when I was 28 years old and had a St Jude Mechanical Aortic valve implanted then. Prior to that surgery, I also had surgery to repair the CoART that I was born with about 10 years prior to the valve replacement.
I have been doing home INR monitoring since about the year 2000 and recently, the coumadin clinic who I work with, informed me that my doctor changed my INR range that he wants me in. It used to be 2.0 - 3.0, and he just changed it to be 2.5 - 3.0. I thought there was a mistake and they meant that the upper number should be 3.5, but they said no, he indicated only 1/2 of an INR point for my range. Has anyone else seen this?
I'm a little concerned as that may make it harder to keep in range (I am frequently between 2.2 - 2.6) so I worry that I will get a lot more adjusting doses that I have seen in the past.
Anyhow, just curious is anyone has seen or heard of this. I do have a call into the doctors office, so hopefully he can explain the reason to me.

John

Rita Savelis That change is odd so you'll have to ask your doctor but after 27 years you know your body and what you are doing. After 9 years I manage my own med doses and would not change anything if I fell between 2 and 3. No matter what my doctor said. Take care.

Yumiko Ishida When I was about to start on warfarin some doctors said 2.0-3.0, others said 2.5-3.0. The doctor that eventually prescribed it said 2.0-3.0, so for the most part that was my range, but after I developed a clot during a procedure, they wanted me to be in 2.5-3.0. So I assume it has something to do with your risk factor. Either your age or the valve’s age, maybe?
