Cardiac Cath at 6am !!!
praying my triple bypass held and I will only need my valve replaced again. I had severe aortic stenosis 8 years ago from radiation damage, and now have severe aortic regurgitation on my replaced valve. Quiet and solemn today.😌
God is watching over me!🙏🏻

DeLois Tweedy Praying for you for your cath! I have heart and lungs damage from radiation treatments as well. I had a TAVR in 2020 to replace aortic valve with tissue valve (bovine). I am so sorry you are experiencing problems again. Keep us posted on how it goes. Blessings to you 🙏

Hi Gang~
I am in the process of selecting a surgeon for my second open-heart surgery. It’s going to be a tricky surgery and very involved since I have radiation damage to my heart and have had a valve replacement once before eight years ago. My home is in Texas. However, we are in our winter home in Florida and have been checking for doctors. Well, we are here and continuing all my final testing that I have to have done. TEXAS HEART INSTITUTE is rated very high in the country, and I would like to know if anyone has ever gone there and knows of a surgeon. If so, please share , thanks so much

Mark Buttell Hi Jeanette, I would suggest Dr. Sabrina Phillips of the Mayo Jacksonville branch. She was my congenital doctor when she was located in Rochester, Mn. Incredible bedside manors and very articulate with everything physically and emotionally that goes with heart disease. She was one of my most favorite Cardiologists of my lifetime living with this disease. ALL the best to you and your health!

Cheryl Bast I'm back on this site after 10 years, so we are returnees! My tissue mitral valve needs replacing and my aortic valve is leaking. I will know this week what happens next but surgery is scheduled for the middle of April. I am planning on staying here in Orlando for the procedure. I pray you have peace in all the decisions you are making!

Hi Friends~

My name is Jeanette ,and I was on this blog eight years ago when I had a triple bypass and valve replacement at 53 years old. I had Hodgkin’s disease when I was 35 and had extensive radiation treatment to my chest and it damaged my heart. I was very lucky and came through the surgery without any complications. Unfortunately, within two years, my valve began leaking. It’s been mild to moderate over the last few years, but recently got very bad. It is now severe and it’s time for me to have a second open-heart surgery. I had my first surgery here in Florida , but I’ve always heard such great things about CLEVELAND CLINIC. I’m in process right now sending all my documents to them and had some questions for some of you who have gone there. My family keeps asking me. How do you come home after you just had open heart surgery? How can you fly? So many of you that have gone to CLEVELAND and can share any of your experiences with me I’d greatly appreciate it. This blog was so important to me last time, and I made friends with so many people. I even have a woman that I call my Heart Sister and we met in person to celebrate our recovery together. So thank you ADAM for creating this and helping so many people.

Pamela Gregory Hi Jeanette. I had my aortic valve and aortic root replaced at The Cleveland Clinic in October. They were wonderful in every way. I live in Delaware. The plan was after a week in the hospital (for me it was 2 weeks because I had fluid around my heart so had to be readmitted to drain it and keep drain in for a few days), stay in the area for about a week to make sure all is good, then get clearance to fly home. They actually recommended flying because it would be faster and either way you have to walk around every hour or so to prevent blood clots. I had no issues with flying at all. Got a wheelchair at the airports, walked before we boarded the plane, and splurged on a first class ticket to have space and to be in the front of the plane. Feel free to contact me with any questions

Laura Bickford Hi Jeanette- I live in Maine. I had my Mitral Valve repaired at the Cleveland Clinic in January 2022. My significant other (who happens to live in Florida) and I stayed in Cleveland for 2 weeks at one of the hotels on the hospital campus.. I had 3 days of appointments tests prior to surgery, had surgery (in hospital for 4 days), then stayed 4 more days after surgery to have my post op visit. Flying home wasn't bad at all. I had 2 flights. We just planned to use a wheelchair at the airport if the gate was a long walk, but didn't need it. The Cleveland Clinic was awesome. Let me know if you have any questions. Laura

Trygve Harris Hi Jeanette--I just joined a couple of days ago. I am scheduled for mitral valve replacement (also due to radiation damage) at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. One thing I can say for this hospital, if that the amount of time and care from doctors is fantastic. I had pre-anesthesia testing, and part of that was me able to ask all kinds of questions like.... would I have a hard time healing since the chest was radiated. These are things I have no desire to google. The doctor spent an hour with me, just answering questions like this. An hour. And she had personal experience with breast cancer too. I was also able to spend an hour with another doctor, from the Ohio hospital, but working in UAE for a few years, who was so nice, and patient, and explained so many things, including why Ramadan is a good time to be in hospital, and other things that flash into my head in the middle of the night. All the staff I've met have been really confidence inspiring, and supportive. No one has rushed me. No one has dismissed me. I'm sure that's a reflection of the main hospital in Ohio.
