Marie Myers I am definitely more aware of my heartbeat since surgery. My experience is that I can especially feel my heartbeat when taking a deep breath. I don't hear it so much as feel it. Hope that helps.

Michael Andreas Jack, I also had an Ascending Aortic Aneurysm replacement and an Edward's bovine aortic valve put in. For about 11 months after surgery, I could hear my heart very loudly if I tried to sleep on my side and when I drew a very deep breath and held it. I am a side sleeper and it use to make me wake up if I rolled onto my side. Most of that has quieted and returned to normal (I'm at about 17 months after surgery). I read somewhere that your body deposits cells on the dacron graft that replaces your aneurysm and makes it part of you and should last a lifetime. Amazing stuff and I think it will only get better. Stay active!

Michael Greco Hi Jack, this is Andrea writing from Mike’s account. He has a mechanical aortic valve, not biological, and I can even hear him ticking in crowded places! However, this is a positive for us, especially now that he’s scheduled for another OHS and I find myself waking up in the middle of the night sometimes just out of stress insomnia. That ticking sound is a magical reassurance that all is well in my world, he’s next to me, and we’ll get through this. Plus, I can always tell by his heartbeat when he forgot to take his meds in the morning... 🤣

Catie B Jack, I'm not sure. But my incision appeared to pop open twice, but it was somewhat earlier in the process. I hope yours heals up very soon. And i hope the breathing issues ease soon. Have you checked with your cardiologist about the breathing? You're in cardiac rehab, aren't you? Hope that is going well...
