Dear Friends to Be, I have hit a perfect trifecta! Aneurysm of the Ascending Aorta, a "leaky" aortic valve, and a "slightly swollen aortic root." Oh and a double by-pass heart surgery 2 years ago. Does anyone have any experience with this trifecta? I meet with my cardio on July 26 to talk about going forward. Whatever he proposes I am going to get a "Second Opinion" from the Cleveland Clinic. Does that make any sense? Finally, I am otherwise an active 85 year old gentleman, sort of. May there be happiness in your life, and happy babies. Ed

Marie Myers I also hit the trifecta of bicuspid and regurgitant aortic valve, ascending aneurysm and aortic root aneurysm. It seems to be a fairly common occurrence with the bicuspid aortic valve. At 63, I had an aortic valve replacement with ascending and aortic root aneurysm replacement. I am now 70, and so far, so good. No way to know how long my tissue valve will last, but that is the path I have chosen. Sounds like you have a good plan in place. Let us know what you find out in your consultation!

Valerie Allen Hi Ed, I just read your profile and it says tricuspid valve, whereas this note says aortic. If aortic, I also had the trifecta though my valve was stenoic. I am 71 and surgery was 3 months ago. My surgeon told me that the 3 fixes had the same outcome/stats as aortic valve and aneurysm fixes, which is excellent, and I found that reassuring. My surgery and recovery have gone very well. My surgeon was Dr Eric Roselli at Cleveland Clinic. I highly recommend.

Ed Rancourt Comments are encouraging. I am fairly active, significant travel, good diet, and gym several times a week. The fact that I am 85 probably puts me in a difficult category for any surgery, let alone very major heart surgery. I had a CABGx2 surgery in June 2022 and wonder if that has any influence on further heart surgery? Anyone have any similar experience? Oh, and I completed the Ornish Program which had a big impact on my diet so that I am nearly a vegetarian and my cholesterol level is significantly below the the normal range, which makes me happy.
