I have an equine bioprosthetic aortic valve, installed in 2013 by Dr. Stephen Jones, who did it through an impressively tiny cut between two ribs on the upper right of my chest. Afterwards, for the first time in my life, exercise was pleasant! I want that back.
The valve is degrading with about 53% ejection fraction. I am feeling it in being shortwinded with even mild exertion although not at rest.
TAVR is apparently not possible with an equine valve because of length. The risk of open chest surgery is high enough that my surgeon is discouraging it.
Is anyone working on a minimally invasive procedure for equine valve replacement? I do not want to spend the rest of my life unable to go on long walks or having to decide whether it is time to prepare to possibly check out for good
