After open heart surgery at Hoag Hospital in June of 2022, for a mitral valve repair and a surprise LAD bypass, I learned earlier this year that I had to have my Tricuspid valve replaced. This time I qualified for a more non-invasive procedure at Cedars Sinai with Dr. Rag Makkar and, I had the procedure this past June of 2023. The difference was absolutely amazing in terms of pain level and recovery time. I just find myself suffering from some type of PTSD, even though I am so very grateful... Any advise from anyone who has found themselves going through the same emotions after surgery would be welcome.

Marie Myers I can imagine being told you needed more surgery was very traumatic. Several people on this site have had repeat heart surgeries. Hopefully some of them will chime in and share their experience. I am glad you were able to get the minimally invasive version this time! I have also noticed that the people who have had emergency surgery had a rougher time with the emotional recovery. It is a different journey for everyone. Wishing you all the best!

Rita Savelis Your emotions are normal. You had too much done in such a short time. One can feel grateful and down and anxious at the same time. You held it together physically and now emotions come into play. Talk to a therapist if you can. It can help to put words on all you are feeling. Just because your surgery was a success does not mean that you have not been through trauma and you need support. I fell into a depression about 5 months after double valve surgery. It was hard. I went to therapy and took meds and the depression finally lifted. I should hope that your surgeon/cardiologist could recommend a therapist because emotional issues are very very common ater cardiac procedures. Take care.
