Does anyone know is good heart valve clinic in Oklahoma City, ok? I am trying to get a second opinion. All my valves are leaking. The facility I attend now, I’m not sure I trust the drs. At all. I have been looking for a heart valve for a second opinion. I guess I’m just scared and I don’t want to start over with the testing. I want to find a good team. Any help would be appreciated.

Adam Collins Hello Christina. I'm in the Oklahoma City area, and I had my aortic valve replacement surgery by Dr. Elkins (https://integrisok.com/doctors/c-craig-elkins) at Integris Baptist Medical Center in July of last year. I also spoke with Dr. Hennebry (https://www.okheart.com/physicians/thomas-a-hennebry) at the Oklaoma Heart Hospital for a second opinion. My cardiologist is Dr. Madden (https://integrisok.com/doctors/george-madden).

I'm just a patient, but from my perspective, I felt as though I've been in good hands with all of them.

I meet with my cardiologist Monday. We are talking to a new valve clinic. I am wanting a second opinion before I have surgery. I am in that hurry up, wait ...Read more

I meet with my cardiologist Monday. We are talking to a new valve clinic. I am wanting a second opinion before I have surgery. I am in that hurry up, wait period. I know with pulmonary hypertension there is not much can be done. I just don’t want to have surgery. I know I need the valves that are regurgitating fixed. I just need to be very comfortable about my team. I have met one of the drs at the new clinic. He is very knowledgeable and personable. I did not feel this way at the other clinic. Praise God. I feel like I have some hope and trust.

Adam Collins Christina:

I just had my bicuspid aortic valve replaced (as well as my dilated aortic root) by Dr. C. Elkins at Integris Baptist Medical Center in OKC on July 22, 2019.

My cardiologist said that if he needed to have his heart worked on, Dr. Elkins is who he would choose to do it. Adam Pick, the founder of this website, said he'd heard good things about Dr. Elkins, and that sentiment has been echoed by several people I've spoken to as well. I'm not a doctor myself, so I can't say for sure either way, but my surgery with Dr. Elkins went well. He is not known for his bed-side manner, but I didn't find it to be too bad, and, as far as I know so far, he fixed my heart, which is what really matters.

I am thinking about changing valve clinics. I am not sure I am comfortable with team who will be doing my surgery. 2 doctors on the seem not to be prepared and not listening to what I have to say. I have had these doctors to schedule heart caths and not show up to 2 of the procedures and was not notified that they had been rescduled. I live in a different state. am scheduling an appointment with another clinic. Maybe I am just terrified and need another opinion.

I talked to a few doctors before choosing, and I found one that I trusted 100% and who instilled great confidence in me which help alleviate my fears. It all turned out perfectly, was much easier than I thought, and I am in great shape now a year later!

Had mitral valve repair 10 years ago and am now scheduled for a mitral valve replacement next month. Am returning to same surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic. Go with a facility that has a team that has a lot of experience.

Frank Giovanniello Christina, you must feel and see the confidence not arrogance in your doctors. The position I was in, I didn't have much choice. But, the hospital is A1 for hearts, and when I meet my doctor, I knew he was the only one for me. If you have time on your side, look deep into this and maybe some refences from here.

Naomi Gray It's worth shop around deferent clinics and doctors you feel more comfortable with. I'm sure you can find a better match. There are many other doctors out there, and the competition is high for them, too. If they can't make you feel comfortable enough, they don't deserve your business. It's probably a time to move on.
