My significant is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday the 22nd. His ex is still in the picture, and due to circumstances I won't be there for the surgery or immediately after. Most likely not until the weekend.
I have two concerns:
1. He had a mild stroke last spring, is he at a increased risk for another during surgery or immediately after?
2. He has a caregiver during the day and wants me to be there at night, is that advisable? Or should he have a professional for the first week after?
I'm afraid I won't be able to assist him properly, and concerned about both of our wellbeing. I don't live with him and work full time. He is on the stubborn side (he is a physician), and is taking recovery too lightly.
I'm considering buying Adam's book and am wondering if this topic is covered. I.e. The amount of assistance and what's involved. Or should I insist he get a night caregiver.

Kim Jones He will need someone at home, it's not a hard job. You will fix meds and water. It's comforting to have loved ones around. I am confident you will more than qualify. I never bought the book, just had the surgery. I will do you good to know what to expect, he should be fine in the bathroom alone as well, except for being there to scrub his back and make sure he doesn't fall.
